When it comes to wireless sound, your KEF speakers are like a high-performance car. Designed by engineers obsessed with precision, they deliver an incredible audio experience. Whether you’re watching TV, gaming or playing records, the right cable connection allows your LS50 Wireless II speakers to immerse you in superb soundscapes.

01. Transform your TV experience

Televisions are getting thinner. But your sound shouldn’t. LS50 Wireless II is the perfect companion for your set-up. The latest generation Uni-Q drivers create a wide, dynamic sound stage to deliver rich dialogue and explosive sound effects. HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) and CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allow all the sound from your TV’s connected devices to be played through your KEF speakers. You can also control the sound with your TV’s remote control.

Plug in

With most modern TVs, you can use an HDMI cable. Connect your HDMI cable to the ARC/eARC port of your TV. On the back panel of the primary speaker, use the HDMI input, marked TV (V). Then, select “TV” mode in your KEF Connect app. You can also turn on “TV” mode with the source button on the top panel of the primary speaker or on the remote control. The TV icon on the top panel stays lit when the connection is successful.

Set up and sit back

You may need to adjust the settings on your television, so check the manual. Keep in mind some TV manufacturers use different names for HDMI ARC and CEC connections (for example: Anynet+ or Simplink). You can follow similar steps to use optical or coaxial cables. For all of these, it’s important to set the audio output format to PCM 2.0 (some TVs will just state PCM) – not Dolby or Bitstream.

02. Step into a new world

Game designers create immersive worlds for players to escape to. From the rumble of a V8 engine to the clinking of a bullet casing dropping to the floor, sound matters. It can make you feel the expanse of an endless horizon or the squeeze of a dark, damp dungeon. Your speakers place you in the heart of the action.

Let the games begin

If you’re using an HDMI cable, the first step is to make sure your speakers are connected to your TV and the sound settings are correct. For help with this, see the section above (Transform your TV experience).

You can also use an optical cable

Alternatively, if HDMI is not an option and your console features an optical output, you can run the connection directly from your console to your speakers. Use the optical output jack on your device and the input jack (O) on the back panel of the primary speaker. Again, ensure that the digital audio output settings of your console is set to PCM 2.0.

03. For the record lovers

If you love the warmth of records, LS50 Wireless II will fill your home with that fluid feel of analogue sound. It will stay true to the original recordings – that crackle of a bygone era.

Make sure you have a phono stage in the chain. Some turntables have one built in, others require a separate one. You’ll need an analogue stereo cable with a 3.5mm jack on one end to connect your turntable/phono stage to your KEF speakers. The turntable end most commonly needs to have stereo RCA connections.

Expert tip: The analogue input is converted to digital, allowing all your analogue sources to benefit from the same Digital Signal Processing (DSP) wizardry applied to the digital inputs, maximising both the performance and the experience.

Connect using an auxiliary cable

If your device has an analogue audio output, and your speakers have been onboarded, you can use an audio cable to connect your speakers. Plug the cable into the audio output jack on your device (turntables, computers or portable music players) and the 3.5mm auxiliary input jack (X) on the back of the primary speaker.

Select the right mode

Select “Auxiliary” mode (AUX) in your KEF Connect app. You can also turn on “AUX” mode with the source button on the top panel of the primary speaker or on the remote control. The “AUX” icon on the top panel stays lit when the connection is successful. All playback controls (except adjusting volume) can be done on the device itself.

04. Go deeper with a subwoofer

With a subwoofer, you’ll get that deep, low bass. That rumble. That extra impact. Subwoofers help you really feel the sound whether you’re listening to music or enjoying a movie. Just imagine watching Jaws without those ominous notes rising from the sonic depths.

KEF has developed a wide range of subwoofers to suit all tastes and rooms. Discover more here.

Find the right spot for your subwoofer

Both speakers have a subwoofer connection. You can have one or two in your set up. Traditionally, a subwoofer is placed at the front of the room, off to the side, but it’s worth experimenting with placement as every room is different.

Connect your sub with or without wires

You can also choose to go wireless or to run a cable with your subwoofer. If you go for a cable, you’ll need an RCA connection. Use the subwoofer output jack (S) on the back panel of your primary speaker. If you go wireless, you can use KEF’s KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit. The discreet transmitter and receiver can be placed up to 15m apart.

Can I connect my speakers to the TV wirelessly?

We don’t recommend doing so. While most TVs have Bluetooth, the delay can be significant. Some TVs also feature a lip sync setting, but these tend to delay the audio to match the lagging video.
