01. Unbox the power inside

Our sound and engineering team will help you with the basics. Discover what makes these speakers revolutionary. Feel the innovation that pulses through them – the latest from a company obsessed with precision and pure sound.

Take out your speakers

Hold your speakers from the sides as you lift them from the box. Avoid touching the high-performance Uni-Q drivers – the cones are delicate. As you unwrap, notice the design features: the ripples of the rear heat sinks, the delicately curved front, and the flashes of colour details.

Tips from KEF experts

Before you plug in, our Vice President of Technology, Dr Jack Oclee-Brown has two tips to share:

  1. Sound has spatial qualities, it creates a virtual stage, so place your speakers a few metres apart.
  2. Keep them in front of you, roughly at ear level. When it comes to sound, first impressions count.

02. Make connections

Now is the time to connect any other devices you may have, like your TV or turntable. You’ll find more information about this in our Listen, Watch & Play module.

You may have found an additional cable in your box. This is your inter-speaker cable. Your speakers don’t need them as they connect wirelessly and work perfectly without one. But as you continue on your journey to high-fidelity sound, you might prefer to use it. It will help you unlock even higher resolution from your speakers.

Power up your speakers

Both speakers need power. Once you’ve plugged them in, you’ll see the Wi-Fi icon on the Primary speaker blinking white and amber. This is to let you know that both speakers are ready to connect to your home network.

03. Download KEF Connect

To set up and control your speakers, you’ll need to download the KEF Connect app from your mobile device’s app store. When you first start up, the app will guide you through creating your brand new KEF account. This account will help you discover what your speakers are capable of, unlock a new world of sound experiences and carry your settings over multiple devices.

04. Get on board

Connect speakers to Wi-Fi

Your speakers will need to join your home Wi-Fi network – we call this “onboarding”. Public networks might carry additional security features which may require you to seek help from an administrator.

Get started with iOS

Once you’re in the app, find your speakers on your “Speakers Nearby” list, select them and then follow the prompts. You can give them a new name if you like. They’re ready when the Wi-Fi icon stops blinking and a green tick appears on your speaker list.

Get started with Android

Open your app and allow it to access your location services. This will help it find your speakers on your “Speakers Nearby” list. Select them and follow the prompts. You can choose to give your speakers a new name. When the Wi-Fi icon stops blinking and a green tick appears on your speaker list, they’re ready to use.

Feel the difference

Every ear can recognise high-fidelity sound. Picture this: you’re at a concert. It’s starting. Lights flood the stage. The first chord thunders. A firework of sound explodes. Your ears instantly know the magic of a live performance.

Your KEF speakers are made to transform recordings into performances. It’s something only a HiFi sound system can deliver.

In the next module, we’ll show you how to capture that with one of the most convenient ways of accessing music – streaming.

Stay updated

The KEF Connect app is constantly being improved, so make sure you update yours when necessary. The easiest way to do this is to enable automatic app updates on your device.

What makes these speakers so special?

LS50 Wireless II was the world’s first speaker to use the Uni-Q driver. First developed in 1988, it’s been continuously adapted and improved, delivering room-filling, natural sound. Now with the latest 12th generation Uni-Q, the LS50 Collection takes another sonic leap by being the first loudspeakers in the world to use Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) to catch unwanted sound from the rear of the driver. These speakers echo the big idea Raymond Cooke started KEF with back in 1961: to use new materials and engineering methods to achieve superior sound performance.

Do I need anything extra, like an amplifier?

No, you don’t. LS50 Wireless II is an active wireless speaker system that includes four specially designed amplifiers, a preamplifier, digital signal processing (DSP), digital-to-analogue converters (DACs) and a high-quality music streamer. All you need to do is add your music.

How long are the cables?

The power cables are 2 metres each, and the inter-speaker cable is 3 metres. If you need a longer inter-cable speaker, make sure it’s a shielded Cat-6 cable with a maximum length of 8 metres.

Why do I need an inter-speaker cable?

These provide higher resolution transmission between Primary and Secondary speakers and can be used whenever wireless connections are not stable.

Why do I need an Ethernet cable?

Ethernet cables can help you get a more stable internet connection for maximum reliability when streaming high-quality music.

What router specifications does LS50 Wireless II support?

LS50 Wireless II supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands – most routershave both. It also supports the following network standards: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, IPv4, IPv6.

What about firmware updates?

We’re always adding new features and improvements. When a firmware update is available, the KEF Connect app will notify you, then guide you through a quick, easy process. Just be sure to keep your speakers updated.
