Connect Unbox and connect

Get your speakers ready

Set up and push play in three simple steps: unpack, connect to Wi-Fi and take control with the KEF Connect app. Use any device to stream and experience superb sound.

01. Unbox the power inside

Our sound and engineering team will help you with the basics. Discover what makes these KEF speakers revolutionary. And feel the powerful innovation that pulses through them; the latest from a company obsessed with precision and pure sound.

Take out your speakers

Hold your speakers from the sides as you lift them from the box. Avoid touching the high-performance Uni-Q drivers -the cones are delicate. As you unwrap, notice the design features; the ripples of the rear heat sinks, the delicately curved front and the flashes of colour details.

Everything in its right place

Before you plug in, two tips from KEF’s Vice President of Technology Research & Development, Dr. Jack Oclee-Brown. 1: Sound has spatial qualities, it creates a virtual stage, so place your speakers a few meters apart. And 2: Keep them in front of you, roughly at ear level. When it comes to sound, first impressions count.

02. Make the connections

Now is a great time to connect any other devices you may have, for example your television or turntable. We’ve got some more information and ideas about this in Listen, Watch & Play module

You also may have found an additional cable in the box. This is the inter-speaker cable. Your speakers don’t need a cable between them, they connect wirelessly and will work beautifully without it. However, as you continue your journey into High-Fidelity sound, you may decide to use this cable. It will help unlock even higher resolution performance from your speakers.

Power up your speakers

Both speakers need power. Once you’ve plugged them in, you’ll see the Wi-Fi icon on the primary speaker control panel blinking white and amber, letting you know the speakers are ready to connect to your home network.

03. Download KEF Connect

To set up and control your speakers, you’ll need to download the KEF Connect app from your mobile device’s app store.

When you first start up, the app will guide you through creating your brand-new KEF account. This account will help you discover what your speakers are capable of, unlock a new world of sound experiences and carry your settings over multiple devices.

04. Get on board

Connect speakers to Wi-Fi

Your speakers will need to join your home Wi-Fi network – we call this “onboarding”. If you’re using a public network, you might run into additional security features. You may need some help from an administrator if you’re connecting to an office, hotel or public guest network. Security can be tight in these kinds of networks.

Get started with iOS

Once you’re in the app, find your speakers on the “speakers nearby” list, select them, and follow the prompts. You can give your speakers a new name. You’ll know they’re ready when the Wi-Fi icon on the control panel stops blinking and is a solid white and you’ve got the green tick in the speaker list.

It’s something only a High-Fidelity sound system can deliver.

In the next module, we’ll show you how to capturethat with one of the most convenient ways of accessing music – streaming.

Get to know your speakers even more

The KEF Connect app is also being constantly improved, so make sure it’s also up to date. The easiest way to do this is to enable automatic app updates on the device you’re using for KEF Connect.

Q: What makes these speakers so special?

A : Your LS50 Wireless II speakers are the first in the world to use

Our core speaker technology is the signature Uni-Q driver array. First developed in 1988, it’s been continuously adapted and improved, delivering room-filling, natural sound. Now with the latest 12th generation Uni-Q, the LS50 Collection takes another sonic leap by being the first loudspeakers in the world to use Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) to catch unwanted sound from the rear of the driver. These speakers echo the big idea Raymond Cooke started KEF with back in 1961: to use new materials and engineering methods to achieve superior sound performance.

Q : Do I need anything extra, like an amplifier?

A: No. In fact, LS50 Wireless II is an active wireless speaker system, including four specially designed amplifiers, a preamplifier, digital signal processing (DSP), digital-to-analogue converters (DACs) and a high-quality music streamer all rolled into two boxes. All you need to do is add the music.

Q : How long are the cables?

A: The power cables are 2m each. The inter-speaker cable is 3m. If you need a longer inter-cable speaker, make sure it’s a shielded Cat-6 cable, and the maximum length is 8m.

Q : When would I use an inter-speaker cable?

A: An inter-speaker cable provides a higher resolution transmission between the primary and secondary speakers (192 kHz/24 bit) and can be used if the wireless connection is not stable.

Q : When do I need an Ethernet cable?

A: You can use one to get a more stable internet connection and maximum reliability when streaming high-quality music.

Q : What router specifications does LS50 Wireless II support?

A: LS50 Wireless II supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands – most routers these days have both. They also support the following network standards: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, IPv4, IPv6.

Q : What about firmware updates?

A: We’re always adding new features and improvements. When a firmware update is available, the KEF Connect app will let you know and guide you through the quick, easy process. So make sure you keep your speakers up to date.

Q : What’s in the box:
  • Speaker ×2 (primary speaker ×1, secondary speaker ×1)
  • Remote control ×1 (with 2x AAA batteries)
  • Inter-speaker cable ×1 (length: 3m)
  • Power cable ×2 (length: 2m, with country-specific power plugs)
  • Printed materials: Quick Start Guide, Safety Information and Warranty Information
